What does CBD intimate serum actually do?
How exactly, does adding CBD into an intimate serum formula make for more satisfying sex and a better love life?
There are two common challenges women experience in the bedroom where CBD can be a huge support: painful intercourse and sexual anxiety.
Incidentally, the two most prevalent benefits of CBD just happen to be pain relief and reducing anxiety.
How CBD helps reduce pain during sex
Authors of a survey [1] out of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Francisco, estimated that sexual pain afflicts more than 45% percent of American women.
Dyspareunia, or painful intercourse, affects women of all ages, especially menopausal women. According to another study [2], during their reproductive years, nearly 50 percent of women will suffer from pain before, during and/or after sex.
Dyspareunia causes pain and inflammation on the external surface of the genitalia and/or tissue deeper in the pelvis and PC muscles. The condition can be caused by medical issues such as ovarian cysts, endometriosis, trauma, and vaginismus. It can also be the result of psychological issues such as postpartum depression.
Regardless of the cause, pain and irritation before, during, and after sex are often the result of some form of inflammation. CBD has been shown to possess powerful anti-inflammatory properties and reducing inflammation typically reduces pain.
In a 2016 research report out of the University of Massachusetts Medical School titled, “Cannabinoids, inflammation, and fibrosis,” [3] the authors wrote,
“The review concludes with a presentation of a possible mechanism for the anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic actions of [cannabinoids]. Thus, several cannabinoids may be considered candidates for development as anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic agents. Of special interest is their possible use for treatment of chronic inflammation.”
In addition to reducing vaginal pain, CBD is being used internally to treat other issues that get in the way of good sex such as menstrual cramps, endometriosis pain, and menopause to name a few.
How CBD helps to reduce sexual anxiety
While the first issue—pain during and after sex—involves what’s going on down below, the second issue—sexual anxiety—involves what going on up above—in the mind. Issues such as performance anxiety and even simple nervousness can be a real turnoff. The anticipation of pain is also a very common issue that creates worry and anxiety.
But how does a sex serum reduce anxiety? The answer is simple: it goes to your head. CBD is readily absorbed into the bloodstream via the mucosa of the vagina and, to a lesser degree, through the skin or stratum corneum. Once in the bloodstream, CBD almost instantly makes its way to the brain where it helps to reduce anxiety while interacting with the 5-HT1A serotonin receptors and GABA-A receptors.
A research study was published in 2012 out of the Institute of Psychiatry titled, “Cannabidiol, a Cannabis sativa constituent, as an anxiolytic drug.” [4] The authors of this study concluded:
“Studies using animal models of anxiety and involving healthy volunteers clearly suggest an anxiolytic-like effect of CBD. Moreover, CBD was shown to reduce anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorder.”
Who else says CBD makes for better sex?
In addition to potentially reducing pain and anxiety, many women have reported other sexually-related benefits to taking CBD serum to bed, including greater arousal and stronger orgasms.
In a survey titled “CBD's Effects on Sex,” [5] about three-quarters of women surveyed said they experienced stronger orgasms. Men claim they lasted 31 percent longer before orgasm, while women reported orgasm happening 33 percent faster with CBD. Also, two-thirds of both men and women reported that they use CBD to alleviate sexual anxiety.
Furthermore, more than half of the respondents reported being “more satisfied” with their relationship overall and 69 percent of respondents said they are likely to continue to use CBD during sex.
Why GoLove?
Not all sex serums are created equal. Many of the CBD sex serums on the market contain ingredients that can actually end up doing more harm than good. And some, unfortunately, contain little to no CBD at all.
Many of the cannabis serums available are oil-based. Oil-based serums can disrupt the pH balance of the fragile vaginal environment. They can also trap unwanted bacteria inside, causing irritation and/or infections. Many serums also include arousal agents and other chemicals that can irritate the skin and cause burning sensations. For women that are sensitive, the focus should be a clean and simple list of non-irritating ingredients, preferably in a water base.
GoLove Intimate CBD Serum was developed by leading sexologist Dr. Sadie Allison, in partnership with a preeminent Ph.D. formulator. We have found that the ideal formula for an effective sex serum is a water-based solution with 2mg of CBD per pump. According to Dr. Sadie, the creator of GoLove, when CBD in a water-based sex serum is applied directly to the vagina, it can help reduce pain for many women within fifteen minutes.
GoLove's ingredients were carefully selected and ideal for health-conscious women. If you have skin sensitivities or suffer from dyspareunia, GoLove is worth exploring.
